The library of Ponyville is normally not a buzz of activity around Ponyville. Even though the library is usually where certain creatures from another world come in when they are visiting, they will usually quickly head off to do their own thing. But this time, as per request from the Lavender Unicorn that runs the Library, a certain black hedgehog is spending a bit more time there than he would have expected to.

"What exactly do you want me to do?" the black hedgehog asked, quickly cutting to the chase as he usually does.

"Well Shadow," the lavender Unicorn answered him. "I want to conduct an experiment."

The Unicorn's assistant, a purple dragon named Spike, said sarcastically "This is going to end well."

"You haven't even heard what I was going to say yet!" the Unicorn said in her defense.

"Well I'll be upstairs when whatever you do blows up. Good luck Twilight" Spike said pessimistically. And as he said he would, he walked to the stairs and up them, getting out of what he thinks is harm's way.

Shadow still had his usual expression on his face. He asked the Unicorn, "So what exactly is this experiment you have planned. I already told you, I am not going to teach you how to access the power in the Chaos Emeralds. We don't need you to be out of control with power again."

"Well," Twilight said, "that's not exactly what I want to do."

Shadow tapped his foot impatiently, waiting for Twilight to come out with it. Twilight—noting his impatience—said "Well I want to try and charge one of the Chaos Emeralds with my magic and see what happens if you use it. I would have asked Sonic or Silver to help me, but you said that you have the most control when using the Emeralds."

Shadow closed his eyes for a moment in thought. "I don't really like this plan, however I expect you will pursue it whether I agree or not. So let's get this over with."

Shadow grabbed out the red Chaos Emerald and held it out in front of him. Twilight charged her horn with magic and shot it at the Chaos Emerald. At first noting interesting really happened. But then the Chaos Emerald started glowing with the same purple energy that Twilight was emitting. As soon as it started glowing, Twilight cut off her magic.

"Ok, so far so good," Twilight said. "Now try using you're Chaos Control."

Shadow held the Chaos Emerald up high above his head. "Chaos Control!" He yelled. Shadow was expecting time to stop, but instead the Chaos Emerald started shining brightly with the same color that surrounded it previously. The light drowned out everything, and stayed for a few seconds longer then a Chaos Emeralds normal flash.

A large blast of wind went throughout the library and there was a loud CRACK that resounded through the area. Afterwards the light quickly disappeared.

Twilight was on the ground, knocked down there from the blast of wind. When she got up, she took a look around to see that the library was in disarray as well because of the gust of wind. Before she could see what happened to Shadow, Spike came running down the stairs in worry.

"Twilight, are you guys ok?" Spike called as he was running down the steps.

"Y-yeah, I'm fine Spike," Twilight said. She turned around. "What about you Shad…ow?" Twilight's jaw dropped.

"What happened?" Shadow asked.

"Uhh…dude," Spike said.

"I'll go get a mirror," Twilight said as he dashed off to her bathroom.

"I'm going to regret letting Twilight experiment on the Chaos Emerald aren't I?" Shadow said. He could already tell something was wrong because his body isn't functioning to allow him to move. He is stuck on the ground, facing where Spike is.

Twilight came back, holding the mirror with her magic. She put the mirror right in front of Shadow to allow him to see his reflection. And Shadow saw exactly why Twilight and Spike were so surprised.

Shadow was transformed into a Unicorn. He still had his black coat of fur, and his mane carried over the red strips that his spikes used to have. His hooves also carried over the red stripes from his arms and legs. His hover shoes were gone but his inhibitor rings still remained on his hooves. On his flank there was a picture of a red Chaos Emerald. The real red Chaos Emerald stood next to Shadow completely drained of all its power.

"I've been transformed…into a pony?!" Shadow said.

"Well…yeah," Twilight said with a nervous laugh. "I guess that's what happens when you combine my magic with your Chaos Emerald. That's interesting to note."

Shadow was not amused at Twilight making the joke. He gave her a stare that could almost even rival Fluttershy's stare. Which is pretty much all he could do because his body is still not used to his new body yet.

"D-don't worry I'll try and find a way to fix it," Twilight said. "Umm…" She looked over at her books, but realized that she has nothing there that can help Shadow. "I know! I'll send a letter to the princess. We don't have any books on metamorphosis here, but I'm sure there are several in the Canterlot Archives. She can try and find you some."

Using her magic Twilight grabbed a pen and paper and handed it to Spike. "Spike, take a letter."

Shadow didn't get to hear what the letter detailed though, because at that moment his nerves started working in his body again, and he felt everything at once. Shadow naturally didn't scream out in pain, because he has faced worse damage before, but anybody else would have probably done so. After the pain passed, Shadow could feel his new limbs. And while his movement was stiff, he still could move.

Spike sent the letter with his fire breath and it was off. "Well there we go," Twilight said. "Princess Celestia should come up with something to help you."

Spike belched out the reply just a few seconds later. Twilight opened it with magic and read it out loud. "Dear Twilight Sparkle: While we do have several books on metamorphosis in the Canterlot Archives, they will not be able to help your friend's situation. None of the spells are permanent so even if we could give Shadow his original form back he would lose it quickly.

While I will leave it up to your friend's choice I would recommend sending the Chaos Emerald to me so I may look it over and see if I can gain a solution from it. But whatever you chose, I would greatly suggest you teach him all you know about controlling his magic while he is in that form. I trust that you will be able to handle it."

"So Shadow…?" Twilight asked. Shadow was eyeing the Chaos Emerald on the floor, obviously weighing his options. The very few that he has.

Great. If I don't give the princess the Chaos Emerald there is a good chance I'll be stuck like this forever. Yet at the same time I still don't trust anybody here with the Chaos Emerald. I barely trust anybody at home with the Emeralds; but they at least know how to use the Emeralds.

Shadow looked over at Twilight, who was waiting for an answer from him. Twilight trusts Celestia without any reserve or doubt. I'd like to be able to as well, but my trust is hard to earn. I guess then it's time for the monarch of this land to earn it.

"Fine," Shadow said. "The Chaos Emerald is out of energy anyways so she shouldn't be able to do too much with it. Just make sure when you give it to her, remind her exactly what happened to you."

Twilight gulped at the memory as she grabbed the Chaos Emerald. She had Spike write a quick letter to the princess and wrapped the Chaos Emerald in it as she sent it to the princess in the usual fashion. Twilight then floated a book towards her.

"Now on to magic," she said.

"Twilight, I can barely walk right now and you want me to use magic?" Shadow said.

"Well I just want you to learn about basic control first," Twilight said. "If you were a young Unicorn colt I wouldn't be worried but because you are much older than that and your magic is much stronger. So if we don't teach you control soon, you might end up producing a magic flare."

"I control the Chaos Emeralds," Shadow said, "how hard could controlling magic be?"

Apparently not hard at all. In order to control his magic, Twilight had him levitate things all around the place. At first Shadow was naturally shaky with his levitation and constantly dropped the objects he was moving, but he improved quickly almost as if before he was just out of practice.

"Well Shadow, looks like you're a natural," Spike said.

"Yeah…" Twilight said. Her voice drifter off at the end of each sentence she said. "I guess you are. Good job Shadow."

Shadow noted the tone of her voice and said "I wouldn't recommend being jealous. I have no plans on being a Unicorn forever so you can go back to being the most powerful Unicorn soon."

"I'm not jealous," Twilight said. "I'm sort of disappointed that my first teaching task is going too quickly. I was sort of hoping it would take you a while to learn so I could give you all my techniques and really spend time teaching you."

"Humph. If you really want to spend time with me than wish granted. I am not going back to earth looking like this, so I'll be forced to spend a lot of time around Equestira until the princess comes up with a solution to my problem. Otherwise you've done exactly what a teacher is supposed to do, make sure their student is ready for what they need to do."

"Thanks Shadow," Twilight said. "How do you know just what to say?"

"Try not to need it too often," Shadow said. "It's extremely hard for me to be giving it out."

"Which is why you didn't mind giving it to Applejack and Scootaloo," Twilight pointed out.

"I'll give it out if I feel the need, but I prefer not to need to," Shadow attempted to explain himself. "I promised Maria that I would give people a chance to be happy. That doesn't mean that I enjoy giving out advice."

"Well at least you have a good heart in you," Twilight said. "You might not like to do it, but you're willing to help out, and that's all that matters."

"I guess," Shadow said. If he still had arms, he would probably cross them right now, but that is one of the disadvantages of being a pony.

He noticed that he was hungry and apparently Twilight was too. She said "How about we all go off to town and grab a bite to eat."

"Sounds good to me!" Spike said. Afterwards he mumbled "Anything to get out of cleaning this place up again."

"What was that Spike?" Twilight asked.

"Uhh, I said…I'm really hungry. Yeah, that's it!" Spike said unconvincingly.

Shadow shook his head, but Twilight let him off. "Ok then, let's go!" Twilight said. Spike got on her back, which caused Shadow to roll his eyes again but he didn't say anything about it. Spike should just be glad he didn't try riding Shadow otherwise he would most likely get a strong kick to the stomach.

The three of them left the library and went all of five yards before something happened. A call off "Incoming!" came from the sky, and while Twilight managed to get out of the way in time Shadow was unable to move quickly enough because he is still not used to his new body. So a cyan Pegasus with a Rainbow mane and a white Pegasus with a blue mane both ran into Shadow at high speeds.

"Do I look like a landing pad to you two?!" Shadow asked angrily as he got up.

"Well sooorrry Shadow," Rainbow Dash said as she was getting up. "But we did tell you to…" She saw that Shadow was a Unicorn in which she burst out in a fit of laughter at. "Hahaha, and I always thought Rouge was kidding about you two being together! I didn't think you would actually try and transform yourself in order to be together."

Twilight was blushing behind Shadow, and Shadow managed to keep his expression intact. In retaliation he said "Don't forget what Rouge also said about you and Sonic Skittles." That caused Rainbow Dash's laughter to fall fast and Soarin' to look nervous.

"Well uhh…" Rainbow Dash quickly tried thinking of something to change the subject. "…how did that happen to you in the first place?"

"Twilight attempted to infuse the Chaos Emeralds with her magic," Shadow explained. "When she did, I attempted to use it just as I always did, but a large mass of energy exploded from the Emerald and I was left in this state."

Rainbow Dash was about to use a joke on Shadow, but she realized that it would probably end more badly to her than it would to Shadow. So instead she decided to get out of there while she was behind. "Well, come on Soarin', let's get back to practicing. Then afterwards I'll make sure to get you some apple pie," She said in the world's worst segue.

"Uhh…ok," Soarin' said, caught off guard by her segue, "Sounds good Dash." The two Pegasus took off into the sky and both accelerated quickly into the distance.

"Those two are as lively as ever," Shadow noted.

"Yeah. I'm just glad you didn't try and Chaos Blast them when they ran into you," Twilight said.

Shadow looked at his horn thoughtfully and said "Hmm…I don't know yet if I'm able to use my Chaos Powers while in this form."

"Well you should be able to," Twilight said. "After all, your cutie mark is a Chaos Emerald."

Shadow one again gained annoyance at his new form at the reminder that he now has a cutie mark. Why couldn't it be named something else? I'd almost wonder how the males here can keep their sanity knowing they have something called a 'cutie mark' but then again they're not from my world.

But while I am annoyed I might as well use it for something.
So Shadow took all his annoyance and turned it into energy. While normally right before a Chaos Blast Shadow would be surrounded by a red aura, this time only his horn and eyes were giving off that red aura like he is using normal magic. Shadow lifted his horn straight into the air, and the Chaos Blast came straight from it.

The Chaos Blast naturally kicked up plenty of dust from the road and the blew a strong gust of air from it, but because of Shadow's control over it he managed to avoid hitting Twilight and Spike with the full blast of it. But they still were blown a bit by the gust of wind and it was hard for them to stay standing through it.

"Well, looks like I still have it," Shadow said. "It's not as powerful as it was before, but I'm still getting used to drawing my energy into my horn in order to release it."

"Well once you're used to it your Chaos Powers should be really easy to use," Twilight said as they both started walking. "As I mentioned before a Unicorn's cutie mark usually shows where your magic has its priority. Rarity's involve gems, mine is overall magic, so yours should be your Chaos Powers.

So while you can use telekinesis and other stuff like that, it won't be nearly as strong as when I use it. Yet at the same time if you ever let me try out Chaos Powers," Shadow rolled his eyes, "I wouldn't be able to do nearly as well as you would be able to."

"In other words," Spike chimed in, "Twilight is still more powerful then you."

Shadow could have retaliated if he felt like it, but he decided it wasn't worth it. At least Spike isn't boasting about himself like somebody Shadow knows. So Shadow let it slide and kept walking.

They eventually made it to a place to eat and sat down to eat. Shadow was a little nervous about eating flowers—he would usually either eat some fruit while here or bring his own food before—but luckily his new body also comes with new tastes so he was able to eat it just fine.

Afterwards they went back to the library and spent most of the rest of the day practicing. After the long day of practicing the two went off to bed. Spike and Twilight slept in their beds while Shadow got the guest bed to sleep in for the night.
Part 2 [link]

Well I didn't expect this. This was originally going to be a one-shot, but it ended up being too long. So I decided to split it apart into two chapters. You can expect the next chapter by tomorrow.

And yeah, Shadow's now a pony yada yada yada, by now you should have read it so you should know what happened.

I like this story, this is playing off like a saturday morning cartoon, and love the banter between the characters. Can't wait to read part two
